This season has a duration of 11 weeks and 6 days. But for the sake of argument and ease of explanation, we will round it out to 12 weeks.
This season you can earn XP through Punch cards, you have your Daily Punchcard, your Weekly Punchcard, and your NPC Punchcards. In theory, this should work great, but it couldn't be farther from the truth.
I know everyone has complained about the XP this season, but I am about to prove that it's actually much worse than we thought.
How much XP can you earn from Punchcards?
Everyday, you can earn 51,000 XP for completing your Daily Punchcard, in a week, this equals 357,000 XP. After 12 weeks, this equals 4,284,000 XP.
Every week, you can earn 195,000 XP for completing your Weekly Punchcard. After 12 weeks, this equals 2,340,000 XP.
We have currently been given 15 NPC Punchcards to fill. We are expected to receive a total of 39 this season (as reported by prominent leakers). After 12 weeks, this equals 3,120,000 XP.
This means we can get a total of 9,744,000 XP this season just from completing challenges. That XP amount is enough to get you to level 136.
However, some of you may say that this is impossible since you only play solo, and cannot complete Weekly Punchcard challenges such as playing with friends. Let's take out the Weekly Punchcard XP from out current total. This means you can get a total of 7,404,000 XP this season. That's enough to get you to level 95.
AFK Creative XP
Now, as with previous season, we have to be aware that a lot of the player base takes full advantage of AFK creative mode. Users even did this last season even though the XP gains were great, so let's check that out as well. You can earn 125,000 XP every day through this method. Every week, this ends up being 875,000 XP, and after 12 weeks this equals 10,500,000 XP.
Literally ONLY doing creative XP gets you to level 148 alone. Add this amount on top of the largest possible total, that's 20,244,000. This gets you to level 271. Assuming you don't play with others and can't finish your Weekly Punchcard, the max amount of XP you can earn is 17,904,000 XP. This gets you to level 247.
"So what gives? Those XP amounts are great!"
They're great, if you play every single day. However, like a grand amount of Fortnite's playerbase, we either have school, work, chores, tasks, and a million other things to do.
Now let's look at these XP amounts in practice. Although in theory they sound great, just how much time we would actually need to play this season to reach your goals?
"How much do I need to play to get to level 100?"
I get it, we can't all play every day. So let's do the math, if your goal is just to complete the BP this season, you will need 7,780,000 XP. Assuming you play with others and complete your Weekly Punchcards and work on NPC Punchcards when you are online, we can subtract those amounts from our total. This means you now need to get 2,320,000 XP throughout the season. This means you need to play 14 days out of the season. 14 days where you complete your Daily Punchcard, and also fill your AFK Creative XP. For reference, the season lasts 83 days.
So statistically, you could play a day or two every week and you would unlock everything up to level 100!
"What if I can't complete Weekly Punchcards since I don't play with others?"
Now, if you don't play with others and by default are unable to finish Weekly Punchcards, let's figure it out. We still need 7,780,000 XP to get you to level 100, so let's subtract the NPC Punchcard amount, This means you now need to earn 4,660,000 XP. That equals playing a total of 27 days out of the season. 27 days of completing your Daily Punchcards and also doing the AFK Creative XP.
Realistically this means you would have to play 2-3 days a week to unlock everything up to level 100.
"How much do I need to play to get to level 200 and unlock all the BP styles?"
The question we have all been waiting for. Let's figure it out. Getting to level 200 will cost us 13,951,250 XP. Assuming we play with others to accomplish our Weekly Punchcards and finish our NPC Punchcards, this means we would need to gain an extra 8,491,250 XP. This means we would need to play 49 days out of this season, a bit over half of the 83 days it will last. Of course, this is 49 days of finishing Daily Punchcards, and doing AFK Creative XP.
This means you would need to play a minimum of 4 days every single week to get to level 200.
"And what if I can't complete Weekly Punchcards since I don't play with others?"
The hardest grind yet. If you don't play with others and by default are unable to finish Weekly Punchcards, let's figure it out. We still need 13,951,250 XP to get you to level 200, so let's subtract the NPC Punchcard amount, This means you now need to earn 10,831,250 XP. This implies you need to play a wopping 62 days out of the 83 days this season lasts. And of course, this is 62 days of doing Daily Punchcards and doing AFK Creative XP.
This means you need to play between 5-6 days every single week to get to level 200.
TLDR FOR USERS
- Want to get to level 100 and play with friends? Play twice a week, do all the Punchcards that you can, and do AFK Creative XP on those days and you'll get there easily! GG, you can do it!
- Want to get to level 100 and play by yourself? Play three times a week, do all the Punchcards that you can, and do AFK Creative XP on those days and you'll get there easily! A challenge that you can overcome!
- Want to get to level 200 and play with friends? Play minimum four times a week, do all the Punchcards that you can, and do AFK Creative XP on those days, it will be a struggle but you'll make it! It will dedication, but I trust you!
- Want to get to level 200 and play by yourself? Play six times a week, do all the Punchcards that you can, and do AFK Creative XP on those days, it will be an uphill battle but you'll make it! I pray for your soul.
- IT IS MATHEMATICALLY IMPROBABLE TO GET TO LEVEL 200 THIS SEASON FROM ONLY DOING CHALLENGES EVEN IF YOU PLAY EVERY DAY. YOU WILL NEED TO EARN MORE THAN 4,207,250 ADDITIONAL XP BY PLAYING MATCHES, DOING AFK CREATIVE, OR PLAYING IMPOSTERS GAMEMODE TO GET TO LEVEL 200.
A TLDR FOR EPIC
- The community complaints aren't just an outcry or wining because previous seasons had great XP. They are clearly valid and justified by the math above.
- You gave players an avenue to earn more XP (Imposters mode), and now you cut the XP earnings by 50%, why? If the point is to get players to get interested in BR again, up the XP gains where they aren't forcing players to play 6 days a week to have a chance of making it to the max reward levels you set.
- I know XP in previous seasons was outrageous, but compensating that by punishing your playerbase with this dismal XP system is just shameful.
