The lore and chemistry of the Chrome

So, this season trailer gave us a brief look at the Scientist's studies of the Chrome and revealed some interesting details.

Now... this looks like gibberish, doesn't it? Fortunately, I have decoded this using my own Fortlish decoder made based on The End event

Now, with this decoder in hand we now have a translated version of the Scientist's monitor.

This is what I like to call "Chromium Zeroinate". But we can just call it The Chrome. There's a lot of chemistry here so let's break this down.

At the center, we have Chromium (III), that's Chromium with a 3+ charge. Next we have those hexagons. Those are Pyridine (thanks to chemhelp sub for helping me identify this). These hexagons contain one Nitrogen atom (N) and some other atoms not shown here. At the other 5 points of the hexagon are Carbon (C) molecules, and connected to 4 of those 5 points are Hydrogen (H) molecules.

Now, at the point where the line splits off we have two 0 atoms, seemingly Oxygen molecules, a negatively charged one single bonded and one double bonded. Now, all together this makes a real-world compound: Chromium (III) Picolinate.

A perfect match.... until we learn what this compound is. It is a bright-red substance that is proposed to be used to treat Type II Diabetes. A far cry from living liquid metal that consumes creatures and things. So what's up? Devs not caring about Chemistry and just throwing something in that had Chromium and looked cool? No. Because this is missing something found in our friend CrPic3: Oxygen.

Remember how I said that was seemingly Oxygen? Well, at first I was sure that was it. After all, what else could it be? But then I looked more closely at the alphabet used in Fortnite and I found that it in not an O.

It's a Zero.

Zero is not an atom in real life. All our atoms use letters. But this is a new element, one that uses a very Fortnite-specific number.

The Chrome is made from the energy of the Zero Point. And that may have some big implications for the story and the coming Nothing...
