The Future of Fortnite

I’ve thought about this a lot as I do truly love this game and don’t want to stop playing it.

This post will try be aimed at all types of players (starters, casual players and competitive players).

Looking at the twitch right now, and seeing the lack of big streamers playing the game at peak time really makes me wonder how we have got this point. The company was great for so many seasons at balancing the game for casuals, sweats and beginners. The game was simply amazing and it’s success came from people having fun, learning new things and connecting with one another.

It’s clear that the BR is in a very unstable position right now with a large portion of the community upset with how the mode plays.

Here is how I think the future of Fortnite should play out:

- Simplify the BR experience

Stop experimenting on the largest mode in the game and take it back to its fundamentals. Gunplay and building.

I know a portion of players don’t like coming across really experienced players that know how to build to a high level and you have no counter for them. Adding items to counter building is not the way.

This BR experience is about the building, it’s about being able to protect yourself at all times.

Any item that plays against building, plays against the nature of the game.

Instead at matchmaking for new players so they can’t face people of high account level.

Allow high skilled streamers to entertain their audiences with building and gunplay.

Simplify the BR, keep a good plot and make challenges interesting.

- Help the competitive scene

These poor players have learn’t to play the game to its highest level, putting 1000s of hours into mastering this game. Right now they have to deal with several items that simply have no counter and negate any skill they have gained.

For example, they are in a late game circle with 20 other people with not many places to move without risking their game and a dinosaur drops on their head out of no where and one shots them.

Stop making the competitive scene about the spectacle of these uncountable weapons and start focusing on the true skill in the game.

Money will always incentivise people to play your competitive mode but people won’t want to stream it or watch it if they best players aren’t being shown off.

I respect that you want ‘anyone to be able to win’ but people have to earn it and not win the lottery.

- Focus on Fortnite Creative

BR fatigue may already be setting in, turn your head towards a mode that can actually constantly evolve and adapt to different trends.

BR can only be the top mode for so long, and messing with the fundamentals of the game to counter this fatigue is not going to help it in the long run. Instead simplify the BR experience and focus your weekly updates on making creative into something truly special.

Creative is the most stable factor in this game right now, there is a mode for everyone and their are so many more modes and maps to be made.

Creative is your opportunity to go crazy on new features & items for the community to try out. The vehicles you add to the game fit so perfectly with the creative.

Creative is the perfect place for new players to learn the game. They can play mini BRs, zone wars, 1v1s and other modes to get them to learn the fundamentals of the game.

Creative is perfect place for casual players. It gives them an opportunity try new modes and enhance their skills whilst playing with friends.

Creative is great for competitive players. We have already seen how much competitive players use creative to get better and push the way building is used in battle royale. Keep providing them this playground and they will stay.

- Save the world

I think it’s about time to make this bad boy go free to play. Give millions of BR players the other side to fortnite, this may bring in new players that never liked the building aspect of BR and introduce them to the fundamentals of the game.

I’m sorry that this this is a long one, I really hope that has some impact.

Fortnite will 100% will go down as one of the greatest games ever. Let’s solidify that legacy!

EDIT - Gonna be adding any other cool suggestions here:

• Server Browse for creative, so people can join your creative modes. This will make it easy to populate mini BRs, zone wars etc

• Add new items/vehicle to creative or a test server first. If creative is the games main mode then the hype for the item will still be there.
