Why are so many people against a no building mode or a limited mats mode as someone who likes everything about the game except the building this would be a great addition to the game.

Every time this is brought up it seems that tons of people complain and say that it is a bad idea and that the whole point of the game is the building mode and that the game got popular because of the building mechanic. Which is not true the game got popular because it's a free game with a great art style with a goofy for all ages feel and it WAS easy to jump into without prior knowledge of other BR's.

Looking back at clips from when the game just came out (clip 1 ,clip 2 and clip 3) that is the game I want to play where it is about aim, positioning and general game sense instead of just using building as a crutch for bad aim and game sense as most people tend to do.

I hate being labelled as a casual because I don't want to go up against people who can build Stark Tower in 1.5 seconds and do so at every little noise they hear. I want to enjoy the game and have a fun chill time as I really like the look of the game and all the cool skins, events and collabs that are available and I know a ton of other people do as well but they hate actually playing the game because of the building.

This is one of the most competitive games I have played which is fine if people want to play like that they should be matched with other people who want to play like that but give people like me a mode where we can play it like a more traditional BR and not Minecraft with guns which is what the game feels like.

A limited mats mode or a limited building mode where you can only build small cover and structures would be great for people like me but for whatever reason people seem to hate this idea and to those people you wouldn't be forced to play the mode whereas for people like me the only other option would be to quit playing all together.

The ULTIMATE reason why old and new players hate Fortnite

This isn't a simple reason at all. It's not a "git gud" situation and I wouldn't even call it an Sbmm/internal decisions situation. It IS a building problem, but it has layers that I haven't seen anyone address yet.

1. Building in Fortnite is the single most unique gaming mechanic to come to multiplayer gaming in decades, and THE most unique gaming mechanic added to a shooter EVER. Full stop.

There is nothing like building in fortnite when it comes to combat, so much so that it's very use was an accident itself. Those of you who were around for the initial promos for Fortnite, what did you see that you don't really see anymore? Forts lmaoo. The whole multiplayer part of the game was supposed to focus on building Forts to protect yourself against other enemies.

In the beginning you and your squad would create these massive bases, and then maybe another squad would flank or someone would try to climb up to infiltrate. That "meta" is years gone now because the speed at which you can build is so fast that it renders actually creating a fort completely useless. The game is no longer Fortnite, it's BuildNite.

Why is this such a problem for newcomers and casual players a like? Because they transfer NOTHING from any previous knowledge of gaming into this one. Zero. Take any racing game for example. Yes the driving mechanics might differ slightly, the cars can vary, even the courses. But the core mechanic of driving games are all the same. That's the same with shooters, sports games, fighting games, MOBAS, hell even RTS games to an extent. There has never been a building game like Fortnite with anything close to those mechanics.

However, that's STILL not enough to warrant the hate. If you could kill just by building, like the actual boxing in of someone itself instantly kills them, then Fortnite would just be a unique party game that has it's niche of players and thats it. People would enjoy it for what it is.

But Fortnite is first and foremost a shooter. In order to ultimately kill your opponent, you have to shoot them just like all other shooters. However, Fortnite is arguably the only shooter ever in the history of shooters to have a mechanic that is more advantageous than just shooting, but it NOT be a way to earn a kill. It's actually an incredible feat.

Let me ask you this: in what competitive game has there been an overpowered meta that wasn't quickly addressed? Building is a meta that was allowed to grow and completely dwarf the original intent of the game. Imagine your favorite fighting game with the OP character, and the devs did nothing about it. But then they changed every other character in the game to behave the same way in order to "balance it". Thats what building became in Fortnite

Which brings me to my second point:

2. Building has NO disadvantages.

Building is a completely drawback free power. You gather materials and let it rip lol. There's no cool down, no health drawback, nothing. Hell, your main process of killing (you know, shootey shootey?) at least has reloading. There is no disadvantages to building and everything to gain. A person who knows how to build vs a person who does not know how to build has an incredible advantage INSTANTLY yet that is not the primary purpose of the game. How does that make sense? In what other multiplayer game does one mechanic completely dwarf another in terms of win condition yet they have virtually nothing to do with another?. In fighting games you have combos and parries as advantage states. The faster and more precise you can pull these off, the better, but its just an advanced version of the existing mechanic. In other shooters it's called aim. But building has no mechanical relation with shooting in Fortnite. That's not normal at all.

3. No applicable single player mode

Yeah yeah yeah, your first angry reddit reaction (if you even made it this far) is that "there's Save The World!" I haven't played STW, I admit, but I've know about it since before the game was even released (I remember the Gameinformer cover you brats) and you absolutely do not have to (or even should) use the same build mechanics as you would in multi, nor would you have to run into that. There are no bots you can practice against completely solo, and the bots in BR are laughable at best, confusing at worse. That's all I need to say about that. If you combine all 3 of these points you get:

4. The Killer Combo

What do you get when you have a game thats advertised and designed as a shooter, has a mechanic no other game has or has even remotely mimicked, PLUS you don't have a sufficient practice mode against capable AI AND the base skill floor of the game has reached the point where old school Myth build mechanics are the norm? You get disgruntled casual vets, and a legion of newcomers (new money) who won't even step foot into the arena.

Now I know a lot of you are like "fine, we don't want them playing with us anyway" but thats a shame because Fortnite is a fantastic game. There's few games like it that provide so much content and polished gameplay all for free. In fact, it pretty much spearheaded that genre and the era we see today. There is so much room for Fortnite to be more inviting to new players while still catering to old vets. Here's some possible solutions:

• Add a cooldown for building IN A SEPARATE MODE. It's already too late to have such a drastic change as adding it into regular gameplay, but what about a separate mode where you actually have to think about how you build? Yeah, ground game is a cool alternative too but this allows people to keep the building mechanic while also leveling the playing field between it and gunplay
• Take out/lower building completely as a separate mode and actually advertise it correctly. Ground game has been around for a while but it was never really pushed as an alternative (even the name doesn't say much) and it constantly was overshadowed. What if you put some marketing dollars into that new "no build" game mode and actually made it permanent? What if you brought back that other market of players that left because of one simple reason?

Ok ok, this was probably my longest post ever, but this has been on my chest since I came back after Chapter 2 to a ridiculous pub lobby. I once said Fortnite might be my favorite game of all time and I really want to go back to those good ol days. I think what annoys me the most is the solution is so easy and yet they still haven't tried to do it. Here's to my fellow Fortnite retirees who feel the same.

Downtime for v19.10 has ended. Here’s a summary of what’s new:

• The Return of Tilted Towers! The Island’s thaw goes on, and Tilted Towers has emerged from underneath the snow and ice!
• The Grenade Launcher is back and we've made some tweaks to its responsiveness! Projectiles now explode after their first bounce and fire more directly at your target.
• Klombos emerge on the Island along with their favorite food - Klomberries!
• With v19.10, the Crowning Achievement Emote now displays more than 99 Crowned Victory Royales.
• ICYMI: Balance Changes made last week included decreasing the damage of the Stinger SMG, Slightly decreasing the damage of the MK-Seven Assault Rifle, and Increasing the reload speed of the Auto Shotgun.

making skins spawn as default should be illegal.

Fortnite charges all this damn money for skins, and then we can't even show them off. 90% of user skins spawn in default regardless of system you are playing on.

I know they do it to reduce lag, etc. But don't sell the damn skins if your game can't handle it.

Series s for me. PS4 seems to have the majority of issues, but it's all platforms.

To All the One-Pumpers out there...

So, here is the deal. I have been playing this game for years now. I am an older gamer 30+ but honestly love playing Fortnite. For the skill level i have and the set up, PS5 and crappy tv, I play on, I am happy where I am at (600+ wins and almost 13,000 kills). I read all the main FN subreddits on a regular basis. And even though I can't grind this game, I try to take hints and tricks from everyone to get better.

The feedback to this season from the pros and all the wannabes in the competitive world amazes me. Yup, they took the pumps out of the game. The last time they did that was the season that we had the charge shotgun (which could one shot just as easily). We have not had a spray meta since C1S7 or 8 - whatever season the drumgun was so OP). Now, we get to this season and they take the pump out and make the SMG the strongest weapon of the game and people complain about it like it is the end of the world.

I spent the whole last chapter getting one shot with the pump time and time again. If a MnK player knew how to edit and had a purple or gold pump, I was dead every time. The game had honestly become so boring to me. I knew how I could win and I knew how I would lose.

This season has totally changed the game for me. I am having so much fun again. I, for once, as a controller player, get to be the agressive player. The Spiderman gloves are a blast and so fun to use. I love all the ways to find healing in the game. And not every fight is a build battle. It makes the game so fun and interesting.

People who loved the pump might disagree with me.. I get it. But, I just needed to put my voice out there that as a casual, and even as an avid tournament/competitive watcher, I am so glad the game is new and different this season. I am glad that the game has changed and there are multiple ways to win. I am glad that the game is not just who has the fastest edit-pump-reset-edit-pump cycle. It was fun watching Sypher, Ninja, Courage and Wildcat get multiple wins in a row the other day on Twitch. Whether I am playing or watching, this season has been the most fun in a hot minute.

I understand that the Stinger needs to be nerfed. And that is fine with me. But please, Epic Games, please don't bring back the pumps because all the pros are asking for it. You can change the current shotguns, bring back the heavy, or do some other balancing. I really don't care if pros quit the game. That has happened before. If you look at the World Cup lineups, most of them are not playing anymore.

EDIT: I am seeing a lot of people in the comments asking/commenting/insulting about the SMG being lower skilled vs. the Pump being higher skilled. I fully realize that the PUMP is higher skilled. I understand why competitive players want it in the game. But as a CASUAL this season is more fun for me than that meta! That's all I am saying. I don't really care to debate which takes more skill to use. Fun and skill are not the same and don't have to be.

The other thing that I am noticing and realize that a lot of you are in your teens and twenties is a lot of just mean comments. It's really okay if someone disagrees with you. There is no right or wrong when it comes to opinions about a video game.

Canonically there is no reason for Loot Llamas to be sentient now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there really isnt a reason for them to move around anymore and Epic clearly just doesn't want to bring the old ones back. They started moving ever since CH2S7 which was when aliens invaded the CH2 island, I guess that's a reason for them to move, but aliens have been far gone by now and they still kept moving in CH2S8. Plus, we're on a completely new island now and I'm sure this one didn't get invaded by aliens.

Anyone else notice a weird difficulty spike?

When I got back into Fortnite it was fun and I could play the game without having to worry about taking the game super seriously but now it’s like I’m playing against pros now idk if it’s cuz I’ve changed my set up on my controller and changed my setting but it seems since then that’s when I got a random difficulty spike or maybe sbmm is broken now? Does anyone have an explanation cuz this random spike in difficulty is annoying and I can’t even have fun with the game anymore and I thought area would help cuz I thought area would have better sbmm but it’s even worse imo like wtf is going on is Fortnite nothing but sweats and try hards now? I remember playing this game and having fun but now I feel like it’s gonna give me a aneurism
