Glider Re-deploy Update

We’ve finished our first week of Glider Re-deploy being available in all modes. During this time we’ve been collecting internal data and monitoring constructive feedback from all of you. We understand that not all players agree with this change, but we would like to continue with this functionality in the game based on the positive results we’ve been seeing.

 

As this feature remains available, we’ll begin making quality of life changes to its functionality. First of which will be prioritizing Glider audio over weapon audio within certain ranges, this will begin in v6.21. We also plan on adding additional changes in future updates.

 

Thanks for the discussion and feedback you’ve provided. Please continue letting us know how we can improve this feature, your thoughts on its effect in matches, and any other feedback you may have as we continue to work on Glider Re-deploy.

Hey /r/FortNiteBR,

Feedback for the Glider redeployment mechanic

If you are unaware, EPIC has recently added a new mechanic to the game known as 'glider redeployment' in the v6.20 update. This allows for the player to redeploy their glider from 3 stories or higher. This mechanic was taken from the soaring 50's game-mode and applied to all default modes.

We are making this thread to help compile all the feedback the community has regarding the new redeployment mechanic, this is to reduce the amount of generic spam on this topic and to also allow for wide constructive discussion about the implementation of this new mechanic.

Discuss below what are your thoughts on the mechanic, should it stay? Should it go? Any adjustments which you think should be made to make it fit well in the game. All feedback is welcome and we expect in depth discussion on how well this mechanic fits in-game.

Fortnitemares Challenge Issues

We're working on a fix for a couple of Challenge issues.

1) Players are unable to complete the following Fortnitemares Challenge: Complete Fortnitemares Challenges

 

2) Players must destroy the Cube Fragment in order to receive credit for the Challenge: Damage Cube Fragments

 

We're working on getting a fix out as soon as possible for the first issue and have a fix ready for the second issue in v6.21.

Fortnitemares Part 3 Challenge Fix

We have just released a fix for some of the Part 3 Fortnitemares challenges that were granting Battle Stars instead of XP. Please be aware, the UI will still show the reward as Battle Stars until the next update. This was our goof and you will keep everything you've already earned.

I'm loving the 3rd set of Fortnitemares challenges!

I'm so glad there's no bugs associated with them that Epic would have to fix. Gee, they work so much so it must be nice to be able to sit back while people complete these new challenges! They have a good community as well that would always tell them if some sort of glitch snuck by testing. Good thing there isn't any to report!

Mobile end of week update

Hello Fellow Fortnite Players!

Today’s post is going to be an update on where we stand on some mobile concerns this week. I want to start out by responding to a few concerns that have been raised since the release of patch 6.20. The currently reported issues that are new this week that we are tracking are:

• Long load time
• VOIP Audio is low

These are the two newest issues that have come up this week since patch 6.20. Issues that we are tracking since season 6 launch are the above plus: *NOTE NOT EVERY ISSUE WILL BE LISTED\*

• Matchmaking 201 error
• Textures appear blurry
• Storm effects persisting after leaving the storm
• Battlepass and other cosmetics ( including emotes) not displaying correctly
• Use the horn on ATK and Quadcrasher
• The camera becomes “jerky” in some cases

Those are just some of the issues we are tracking. Now I will go over a few points that players think are “Bugs” but are actually not bugs at all.

• Edit button not showing

  • The new HUD has removed the 2nd edit button. This is by design and allows the player to move 1 button and have it show in combat, build, and edit mode.

• Dedicated fire button cannot be removed from combat mode

  • When you select dedicated fire as your choice you will see the 2nd button on your right-hand side that allows you to fire and place buildings. Right now the design is that this dedicated fire button is always shown and turns into a placement button. You can not remove the visibility for this button since the dedicated fire was chosen. You can, however, remove it from being visible by moving it off your HUD into the “extra” button section. This also removes it as a placement button and only allows the left-hand side button to be used.

• Edit “Bug”

  • After reviewing reports it seems there is a miscommunication on our part to explain how editing works. Here is an example: You build a wall and edit the 3 tiles to create a walkway out. You then run through it and want to undo the edit to the wall so the other player can not chase you. In order to do this or re-edit any edited structure, you need to be looking at part of the structure that has NOT been edited. Meaning to return the wall to a full wall in my example, you need to look at the top right or left part of the wall that your crosshairs can hover over. This will allow you to use your edit button and edit the wall any way you like. I hope this explains how editing works, as this is the case on ALL platforms.

• Crouching in build mode

  • So you want to crouch while in build mode? Well, you can not right now :( BUT we are working on it! No hard ETA but this was NOT a bug. It was a design choice as other platforms also lost the ability to crouch while in build mode, but the ability to toggle a setting on allowed them to now do so and we are working on the same for mobile! This is more of an issue when going against cross-platform players since they would seemingly have an advantage as no one on mobile could crouch while in build mode. In a mobile-only lobby, it was much less of an issue.

• Quick building “bug”

  • This is something I was a bit worried to put in here but I know it is needed. I have seen the videos of players sending me that there is a bug where placing a wall while holding down the placement/fire button down. I have been testing this over and over again based on all of the videos I have seen and CAN NOT get this to happen to me. I am trying to see what the issue could be here. How I have been testing this:
    
    • Grab a weapon such as AR or SMG and gather mats
    • Hold down the fire button on the weapon and while shooting press my wall button then switch back to the weapon. The result for me has been shooting bullets---wall is built---moving around while holding the button down walls are still built---- switching to ramps, they are still built while holding the button---switch to the weapon while holding button--- weapon fires.
  • As you see I have tried to get turbo building to not work while switching between combat and build mode but have not yet had any issues. Please continue to send me videos if this is happening, as I am monitoring this issue and will try to keep on reproducing the issue for the team. Also if you have this happen PLEASE REPORT IT! Use the feedback button and report the issue as the subject, “Turbo Build” then describe what happens in the body text box. Reporting the issue gives us your player logs for that game and allows us to get a more detailed report.

One last thing I would like to point out is how much as been done since Season 6 has launched for mobile nearly 20 bullet points in patch notes have been added in Season 6 with a lot of fixes that the team has been working hard on here are just a few of the big ones:

• Interaction bug fixed
• Custom HUD
• Resizeable buttons
• Players can now edit structures while in combat mode while holding any weapon.
• Memory improvements mobile
• The first weapon you pick up will now auto-equip itself on mobile.
• Touch control input now has smoothing enabled.
• Tapping selected buttons on the build quickbar will once again build the selected build piece.
• All elements in the Mobile HUD should now be placeable/movable in the HUD Layout Tool.
• Updated visuals for independent Quickbar slots in the HUD Layout Tool.
• Drag and dropping on the Quickbar will no longer select the thing you drag. Players can now adjust their inventory without interrupting other actions.
• Fixing edit button visibility issues when crouching on Mobile

Ok, so this was a long post! Thank you for reading all of this and my goal is that this was helpful for you all to not only see what we are tracking but also maybe gain some knowledge on how the game mechanics work. I think weekly or bi-weekly updates are something I may do a bit more often to better keep you all in the loop. I also hope that this shows just how far mobile has come in Season 6! The goal is to continue to give players an amazing in game and social experience when playing Fortnite.

Epic Games Official Surveys & User Experience Testing

Hey folks!

I’m Ben, the User Experience Lead at Epic Games. My team helps to research the experience y’all are having when playing our games. The research takes many forms, but there are two methods I would like to talk about today specifically:

Surveys

We regularly send out surveys and we know that folks here are getting them because we see the posts here saying that they are fake and ways for people to steal your data! It is great that you are being cautious, keep that up. But, also keep an eye out for official communications from Epic, that is us and we want to hear from you.

We are also aware that our surveys are sometimes very long. That is because we really want to know what you think and we want honest answers. To be clear, we want the brutal truth. We also ask about a wide range of topics (often across multiple different surveys), some of which may be weird or not seem relevant, but in all cases your feedback is incredibly valuable to us.

To talk about our process a bit more, when we send out surveys we send them to a representative sample. That means that not everyone will get a survey. Don't worry though, over time we try to make sure that everyone gets a chance to give us feedback.

Also when you do get a survey please know that the link you have been provided is handcrafted just for you. That means please don't share the link with anyone else or we will have to exclude your responses from the survey, which sucks for you and us.

In summary keep and eye out for our valid surveys (stay skeptical folks), let people know a survey is out, tell them to check their inboxes and spam folders, but don't share your link!

User Experience Testing

One of our other approaches is to bring folks that are local to us in North Carolina into our HQ to give us feedback in person. This may involve playing or seeing something that is unreleased or playing the current version and giving feedback on that.

Please also get your family and friends to sign up as well, even if they don't play Fortnite or play games in general. We need a wide range of people and we do compensate people for their time.

On the launch of Season 6, I tried to purchase $100 worth of vbucks and was met with this error code prompting me to try again https://imgur.com/a/GZn9B1Y

I tried again, and was met with the same error.. about 15 minutes later both transactions went through.

Both epic and Sony have refused to refund the purchase from their errors, and I’ve been threatened to have my account banned if I refund through my bank..

I contacted the FTC today and they are labeling this incident as Coercion, started an investigation, and suggested that I also contact my attorney general (which I will be doing today)

Don’t let big companies profit from you off of their own errors. Don’t let them use coercion tactics to talk you out of your money. Do something about it. Their lack of customer service is the biggest stain in this community.

Change the Battle Bus speed

Okay I could be wrong but I feel like the reason people jump out at all the first drop locations is obviously to get some action and get in there straight away. I feel like people may want to go other places but as it takes a while to cross the map people might not want to wait so long while there's people already dying, if the bus was a little faster maybe some locations wouldn't be so empty? I saw this on Epic's forums and feel that this deserves a bit more attention. A user has a modified controller because they have a disability, and unfortunately that is causing the game to kick them. Per the forum poster:

I have a very big problem and the support does not answer me. Since a few days I am disconnected from each game of fortnite. Disconnection and this message "the selected device does not match, please disconnect the mouse or keyboard and restart fortnite" I did everything, restart the console, clear the cache, reinstall the game but nothing helps, I still have the same problem. I am on xboxone. How to do ? I understand that epic games wanted to chase gamers out of order, but my controller was simply changed by the amputation of my right arm last June to following a cancer. I play with a controller adapted to my handicap, the keys are all deported to the left. I can't play a full game. HELP ME PLEASE

Alpha Tournament Status & Known Issues

Hey all ~

Earlier today we launched the in-game tournament system and hosted the first session of the Alpha Tournament on the EU server. We'd like to provide an update on several known issues, what we're still investigating, and what you might expect as we iron out issues within the system throughout the week.

Server Capacity

The sudden influx of players attempting to search for matches at the start of the tournament caused some issues with our matchmaking services as they attempted to balance match assignment in response to the demand. We are updating our matchmaking strategy to better accommodate the rush of players at the start of a tournament.

Schedule & Tournament Regions

An issue was identified where often the 'Tournament Region' displayed in the Events tab would indicate a player was viewing the event list for 'North America'. This is a visual bug only, each region has their own tournament schedule and all times displayed inside of the Events tab are correct based on your local timezone and system clock.

Incorrect Scores

We have a couple known issues around incorrect scores:

Scenario one - players did not receive any points because they were not being matched into the tournament correctly - despite it appearing as if they were. Restarting the game would fix this issue and allow you to earn points. This should now display an error if you try to matchmake with this issue, and we’ll be fixing in a future release.

Scenario two - players may incorrectly either receive a point or not get credit for reaching an elimination or placement goal. However, the correct score would be shown after a 2-3 minute delay or the next time a player returned to the Lobby. We’re actively investigating a fix for this, but your score should be correct at the end of an event currently.

Unfortunately, any points lost during this event will not be recoverable.

Matchmaking

The tournament system is intended to match you against players with similar score during the session, becoming less strict in its search over time to ensure you find a match eventually. Players who have higher scores should expect longer matchmaking times and tougher matches, while players with lower scores should expect an easier time as many of the higher scoring players filter out.

Currently we're finding that this isn't working correctly and is resulting in matches that are more mixed in score than we intended, especially when it comes to players with high scores during the event. We'll be continuing to iterate on this to provide a better matched experience, so expect this to fluctuate regularly.

Event Tab + Alpha Tournament Start Times

Fortnite Competitors,

 

There’s currently a visual issue in the Event Tab in-game that’s causing North America to appear as your region in the bottom right of the screen regardless of your currently selected region. This is a visual issue only and you will be properly placed in the region you have selected once the event begins.

 

All times appearing in the Events tab will show the correct time related to the region you’re currently playing on. This means if you are playing on the EU region that you’ll see North America in the bottom right, but all times related to the event will still show the proper EU times.

 

But since I’m here, let’s take a look at the Event times for Alpha Tournament in all regions.

 

NA (Note: NAW & NAE share the same tournament, but matchmaking will be by selected server region)

• 2300 - 0200 UTC
• 7 PM - 10 PM ET
• 4 PM - 7 PM PT

 

EU

• 1600 - 1900 UTC
• 6 PM - 9 PM CEST

 

BR

• 2200 - 0100 UTC
• 7 PM - 10 PM BRT

ASIA

• 1000 - 1300 UTC
• 7 PM - 10 PM JST

OCE

• 0600 - 0900 UTC
• 5 PM - 8 PM AEDT
